The North Coast Community Garden Collaborative (NCCGC)

Community gardens are plots of land available to people desiring to grow food for themselves, their families, and their community. Many community gardens rent plots to individuals or families on an annual basis; others are tended and harvested communally. People are drawn to community gardens for many reasons; some due to a lack of personal garden space or fertile soil at their place of residence, others in order to foster a sense of neighborhood/community interdependence and cooperation. Some gardens grow food for food distribution programs such as food pantries, homeless shelters, or health care centers. Some gardens at schools are also accessible to the community. All community garden spaces allow people to access more locally-grown, affordable, fresh foods grown without harmful chemicals.

There are many community gardens throughout the North Coast's diverse towns. The North Coast Community Garden Collaborative (NCCGC) is a support network of and for community gardens and partners throughout Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties. For more information on how to start or join a community garden in this region please visit the NCCGC website www.northcoastgardens.org or contact the NCCGC at:
